July 4, 1776. The day associated with America declaring independence from England. It actually happened on July 2, 1776, but that is neither here nor there. It’s a great day to be in the good old USA to celebrate. I want to give you Guying Around’s top 5 Independence Day activities.

5 – Beach

Most beaches are extremely overcrowded on the 4th of July, there are much better places to go at this time. If you own a beach house, by all means use that, but the majority of us don’t. I would rather not be jammed up down the shore worrying about parking, a spot on the beach and the immense amount of crumb bums floating around down there. For those reasons the beach comes in at number 5.

4 – Community Pool

There is no doubt that at your community pool you will see the biggest crowds on the 4th of July, but it’s not as bad as the beach. Usually there are games and different activities throughout the day at the pool. Bigger crowds usually mean at least one adult swim per hour, which cuts into kids swim time. As a kid going to the pool with adult swims averaging one an hour was a real let down. I haven’t been back to my community pool as an adult, so I actually don’t know how good it feels to swim during an adult swim.

3 – Backyard BBQ

An old fashioned family and friends BBQ is always a solid option for the 4th. You can keep it low key or you can get tuned up all you want. It is strictly up to you, but this is a very solid choice. A safe choice some would say. You would obviously need to have hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, chips, fruit tray and a cooler of some domestic light beers.

2 – Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

Every year I love watching the Hot Dog eating contest on Coney Island. I think it shows real America, stuffing your face just because you can. That is the American way. From Eater X to Kobayashi to Joey Chestnut, this stage has shown some remarkable athletes at their peaks. How can you not love it?

1 – Watch “Independence Day”

No question is this the top Independence Day activity. No question the 1996 blockbuster film deserves the top spot. This movie is a Guying Around classic, potentially in my all time top 5 movies. It has everything you need in a movie. If you don’t agree, please comment below.

Remember, if you are Guying Around with some ice cold Guy Soda’s this holiday, please be safe. You never Guy Around and drink unresponsively. Happy 4th of July! USA USA USA!
