This week on Guying Around we have a two part guest submission about the best music to listen to Guying Around. They come from DJ Cuff Your Chick aka “Northeast” Shea. Shea is a resident DJ at The Sugar Shack, one of the premier nightclubs in the greater Philadelphia area. Shea hails from Northeast Philadelphia and has always had a passion for music. He credits Will Smith and Boyz to Men as his musical inspiration as a youngster in Philadelphia. We are lucky to have him contribute to the site, enjoy!

“Music is the language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if itʼs in the bones, it’s in the bones.” I’m not entirely sure if Keith Richards remembers saying this, but I’m damn glad sure he did. The quote is spot on. For a music lover that loves to Guy Around like me, describing what music can do to a person’s soul can be as difficult as choosing a song before a shower, or telling a Game of Thrones fan that Daenerys is the worst character on the show. (Sorry). That doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.

I listen to music whenever given the chance. The obvious times: Guying Around, a workout, traveling, having guy sodas, (alone or in good company), long drives, etc. The less obvious times: Guying Around, during a shower (see previous). Choosing the soundtrack to your day can dictate the path on which you walk (or train, or fly) to new adventures. So if you’re looking for a way to amplify your soul through some good tunes, you’ve come to the right place.

I’ve compiled a list of songs that are from different genres, different eras, and various moods to enhance your ability to Guy Around. These are for any walk of life from my personal collection. Today I am bringing your Part 1 of my two part series. My taste ranges from alternative to hip hop, from new wave to classic folk rock. Not much of a country fan but to each his/her own!

Essential Guying Around Tracks

These 5 songs can kick start any pregame, motivate a workout, or set the tone before landing at a bachelor party destination. They are in no particular order but should be added to a playlist near you immediately.

Money for Nothing – Dire Straits. Skip the intro to the guitar riff and let it ride.

Boys are Back in Town – Thin Lizzy. SUPER cliche, I know, but the lyrics are perfect for these moments.

John – Lil Wayne. This is a hype hip-hop tune to get the blood pumping Guying Around.

International Players Anthem – UGK and Outkast. Talk about a hidden gem, but a pure banger.

One Bourbon, One Scotch, One beer – George Thorogood. What a legendary Guying Around song.

Guying Around Crowd Favorites

These 5 tracks are near guaranteed locks to set the right mood for any situation. There is no doubt these tunes will put a smile on your face.

Give It Up – KC and the Sunshine Band. Never have I seen a negative reaction to this song, in any setting, any age, and any time of day.

Walking on a Dream – Empire of the Sun. A car commercial can do its best to outplay this feel good tune, (which was released 11 years ago) but it never will.

Get Lucky – Daft Punk. A personal favorite of mine.

This Girl – Kungs. You may not recognize the title, but you’ll know the beat when you hear it.

How Bizarre – OMC. Who doesn’t love a good 90ʼs throwback?

Hopefully these tracks will assist you during your guying around endeavors. If they do not, at least you can have a laugh at my subpar taste in music! So, whether you’re jogging down the promenade next to the California sunset, taking off from Newark to land in Reykjavik, or requesting a song from the lads on acoustic in a Galway pub, remember to set your own tone for any adventure. Please comment below on what you think of these songs. Cheers.
